“A notable step towards the realisation of T&T’s Paris Accord commitments.” That was the observation stated regarding a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by members of The NGC Group and The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) to commence work on a Climate Change Mitigation Project. In pursuit of its mission to become a world-class, sustainable entity, UTT was engaged to exchange information on four main areas: Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions, and Climate Change Research, with emphasis on GHG reduction strategies, specifically for the industrial, power generation, and transportation sectors.

The signing, which took place on Wednesday 16th December, provides the members of The NGC Group with the opportunity to expand its ‘Green Agenda’ by validating the GHG emissions inventory for its core product, natural gas. UTT’s development of a country-specific emissions factor will not only improve the reporting accuracy of The NGC Group, but so too GHG Emissions reporting for Trinidad and Tobago as a whole.
