Congratulations to Iran ‘Duce’ Anthony, founder and former manager during the foundation years of NGC Steel Xplosion Steel Orchestra, on his induction into the National Steelband Heroes Hall of Fame.
A pioneer of our national instrument, Tobago-born Duce fell in love with the steelpan when he began playing at just 14 years old. His passion for the instrument and vision for the musical talent that existed around him led him to founding three of the island’s biggest steelbands: Buccooneers Steel Orchestra, New Edition Steel Orchestra, and his current band, NGC Steel Xplosion Steel Orchestra. He led the latter to victory in Panorama and the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Pan Champs competitions over the years.
Today, he is the only steelpan manufacturer in Tobago, and lends his skill to the island’s schools, refurbishing their pans under the THA’s School Steelpan Refurbishing Project.
Duce, congratulations on this momentous achievement! We are proud passengers on your mission to take our national instrument to new musical heights.
