The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) is pleased to announce the 2023 Honouree of its Above and Beyond Programme – Alpha Sennon, the founder of the Siparia-based NGO, WHYFarm. Alpha Sennon is an agricultural entrepreneur working toward changing the optics and narratives around farming, in support of local and global food security goals. WHYFarm, which means ‘We Help Youth Farm’ is an organisation focused on tackling food and nutrition insecurity, the aging farmer population, and declining interest in agriculture, by using innovative edutainment to engage and educate young people around sustainable food production and agribusiness.
In 2017 NGC launched an initiative to recognise and preserve the legacies of achievers who have dedicated themselves to making a positive impact for the national community. The initiative became the NGC Above and Beyond programme, which spotlights local individuals and ogranisations with outstanding national and/or international achievement in the fields of arts and culture, sport, business, agriculture, community and social work, education, environment and energy. The programme’s main objective is to create and support opportunities to celebrate the contributions made by the honourees to the development of Trinidad and Tobago. This is done through a series of activities that will ensure that our people are knowledgeable of these contributions and inspire them to make an impact of their own.
Past NGC Above and Beyond Honourees include – Hasely Crawford, TC, Dr. Pat Bishop and the Adult Literacy Tutors Association – ALTA.
